Listening To The Mother
4th installation of 12

‘Dance Into Change’
Change is inevitable and universal. Nature is the ultimate teacher in this fact. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, yet we can step forward with acceptance, joy and humility.
Autumn is in the air, change is the theme of the earth as the season begins to move toward slumber time.
This 4th installation of the ‘Listening To The Mother’ project seems a bit…immediate. Perhaps because the leaves change from green to gold to rust so quickly. Perhaps because the days are shorter. It was a challenge to create an installation, a piece of art to represent this time and space in all this immediacy, in this constant transformation of the materials, the sounds and even the light, but what a rush of excitement and urgency when it did.
This piece is entitled the Dance Into Change , and is the most ephemeral installation of the four completed so far. Change and transformation are part of this piece’s existence as it continues to change even as I build it.
Finishing the 4th installation in the forest was like a magical dream.
It began with a lot of tossing and turning of ideas, scattered epiphanies and jumbled impossibilities giving way to simply sitting with the silence until calm took hold.
That’s when I was able to listen
That’s when I was able to watch the dance of the autumn leaves in the wind, hear the trees murmur their stories of summer closing and plans for the sleep ahead
That’s when I was able to be with the mother
And only then was I able to be lifted into enjoying the process of co creating a piece that held some of that fleeting energy, the dance of light and colour, of motion and stillness. The Dance Into Change.
